Equipment: All equipment should be cleaned and dried before being stored. Any equipment with sealing doors should be stored with its doors partially open.
 

Files, Records, and Other Documents: To help protect their spine, pack books flat. Use packing materials to fill the empty spaces in the boxes. Avoid packing fragile items in a box containing books. Do not overload the box.
 

Fabric Items: All items should be clean and free of anything that might attract pests.
 

Fragile Items: In boxes containing fragile items it is best to line the top and bottom of the box with packing materials. All items should be wrapped individually and the most fragile items should be placed nearest to the top of the cartons. Be sure to fill all the empty spaces with packing materials. When stacking boxes, place boxes with fragile items on top of the boxes containing heavy items. Label all of the boxes.
 

Office furniture: Place a cardboard mat or plastic sheet on the floor and stand sofas on end to maximize storage space.

 

Determine the Packing Accessories You Need: Paper, bubble wrap, tape, rope, drop clothes, plastic sheeting, furniture covers, file boxes, and storage cartons or boxes, etc.
 

Fill Containers to Capacity: If a box is partially full, top heavy, or bulging they may tip over or collapse. Protect fragile items with packing material and place them near the top of your storage area.
 

Label Boxes: For easy access to your items, keep a list of labeled boxes at your office.
 

Pack the Storage Space Carefully: Leaving some air space around the perimeter of your space helps aid in ventilation. Leave a walkway for easy access. Use all of the available space including the height. Place the items most commonly used towards the door.
